The housing market was placed on hold when the first national lockdown was announced in March this year, and estate agents were forced to close their doors.
However, while the UK has been told to ‘stay at home’ during the second lockdown, which is due to last until 2 December, the market will remain open, and letting agents, in-person property viewings, valuations and surveys can still take place in line with COVID-secure guidelines, reports This Is Money.
As well as letting agents, removal, property signage, and end-of-tenancy cleaning companies can continue providing services, as they are essential to moving home and renting and letting.
Are you able to move home during the second lockdown?
There had been fears that renters would be unable to move property during lockdown 2.0, but Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Robert Jenrick has said that the housing and rental market will be able to operate as normal.
You can move and take advantage of house removal services, car or van rentals, and end-of-tenancy cleaning. But you will not be able to ask friends to help if it means they would be entering the property at either end of the move.
Will viewings be allowed?
While many letting agents have virtual viewings, in-person viewings can continue, as long as they are in-line with COVID-secure guidelines.
Virtual viewings should be done wherever possible, and property letting agents will be able to help with this.
Viewings should be arranged by appointment only and ‘open house’ viewings should not take place. When viewing properties in person, you should avoid touching surfaces wherever possible, wash your hands regularly and/or use hand sanitiser.
