Anyone who was considering or in the process of purchasing a house can continue to move and view homes within Tier 3 lockdown regions, despite a tightening of restrictions, the government has confirmed.
Updated GOV.UK guidance states that for areas with a ‘very high’, or third-tier COVID-19 alert level, that: “Estate and letting agents and removal firms can continue to work and people looking to move home can continue to undertake viewings.”
There is also further guidance for people who need to make appointments in their home, for repairs or maintenance workers, for example, that states operatives need to ensure they are COVID-secure.
Earlier in the year, during the peak of the coronavirus crisis, most housing associations only conducted emergency repairs to help minimise the spread of the virus in tenants’ homes. Many have scaled up their maintenance services once the lockdown measures were eased, and are now working through backlogs.
The government has also put a freeze on the UK housing market by advising people to delay moving into new homes during the worst of the pandemic.
However, the prime minister has announced a three-tier COVID-19 alert system for regions in England, with Tier-3 being ‘very high’, and people who are living in this tier must not meet with anybody outside their household or support bubble “in any indoor or outdoor setting, whether at home or in a public space”.
